10 Nearly finished another. Could do with couple of opinions.

Nearly finished latest track and would appreciate a couple of opinions on it. Gone for a different approach to putting this tune together, trying to take into account previous advice so would really like to hear folks comments on a couple of specific points.

So here's what i'd like to hear back on;

1. Is there a sub line on this track?
Sounds like a ridiculous question, i know. But realised recently that neither the speakers or headphones I have do sub. There should be a sub track, going by how i split it and what the mixer shows me, but no matter how loud i turn it up i cannie hear it. So, is it there and basicaly how do the Hi, Mid and Sub go together?

2. How does the drum line come through the rest of the tune?
Most frequent comment I've had on my recent tracks is that the kick and snare need to come through more. Gone through a few different suggestions and, I hope, come out with a better sound. Think I might change the actual hits abit later but would like to know how it works at present. As I said previous, lousy speakers.

3. Bit by-the-way this one but - does this sound like 2 different tunes?
Ended up with 3 different tunes sporned from this already but would like your opinions on wether I should do same again.

Please no comments on lack of FX or it neading to brake different just yet. I havn't even started to work on those elements yet for this track. But I would like to hear about how it all sits.

Cheers in advance to everyone. Hope ya enjoy.

This tune is was made using cubase, massive and battery. If i remember rightly, plus a whole stack of fx plugins. far from a free setup im affraid lol
Think ReNoise is a free sequencer if you wanna try that, never used it myself though. Should be able to get a program that does same job as battery for free, but cant think of any vst i've used which works the same as massive, that really is an amazing synth.
Glad you liked the track, sorry that I cant help more with your questions though.

Cheers again

Theres deffinatly a sub line in there, it starts at the beginning of the tune. I think it may be a bit too loud, although it could just be the bass heavy headphones I have at work.

Have you tried using sidechain compression with you kik & bassline, that'll really make the kik come through the mix. I'm just starting to experiment with it myself.

Your amen sounds sharp though, did you process that in battery as well??

Tune sound cool though mate & doesn't sound like two different tunes.

Big upz.

cheers for feedback cosmology,

figured there should be a sub in there, doesnt suprise me its a bit loud though, my headphones n speakers plain just dont do that freq range. I cannie hear it no matter how loud i turn it up
will have to try sidechaining sometime. read few tutorials mentioning it, but havn't figured how to do it in cubase.
glad the break came through sharply. done shed loads of processing on the drums for this track compared to normal. the amen's been put through a couple of different eq's and compressors along the way. had to completely mix the tune down about 4 times for my CPU to cope with it all. lol. wondered if id killed em.

cheers again

Not a problem mate,

Theres a good tutorial on youtube if you've got cubase version 4 its quite simple, theres a little sidechain button on the compressor then you bring it in as a send on the other track.

All the best man.

Hi buddy,

Yeah there is a sub, too much if I say so myself. The bass needs a lot more frequencies imho, sounds a bit too much like a single sine wave right now, try mixing it with a triangle/square wave, maybe putting another bass, much quieter, a fifth up.

It also does need a lot more instrumentation I think, atmosphere and stuff, and maybe even things like pianos, strings, vocals, sfx etc.

The kick and snare are fine, but they drop too late. I don't think the break at the start works by itself. Also, I feel it needs a lot more breaks, not quite so highpassed, layered over it, as it sounds like just kick, snare and ringy high-end hihats at the moment.

It's not bad, although not my style of dnb, but I think it needs a lot more. That reese sound gets quite old quite quickly. It needs either a lot more processing or just needs to be used more sparingly. About 2 1/2 minutes in I started skipping forwards, so I think you really need to make things change a lot more throughout the track.

Hope this isn't too critical, sorry! :) Just my feedback.

Peace,
Matt

Cheers for the feedback Capsika,

Exactly the kinda feedback im looking for, honest and specific. Gives me something I can actually work with.
Been thinking the 2 tunes I've done need a bit more variety to 'em. Think I kinda get a bit too in to the sounds I'm making at the time and isn't till a week or so later I can tell I've over used em or relied on em too much. Just got into using massive and splitting the freq's recently and been loving the sounds you get of of it, so blaming that. lol

Cheers again though mate and will take heed of your advice
